The mass displacement from Eastern Gezira to New Halfa has resulted in a significant humanitarian crisis. In response, the Sudro Organization established the Community Medical Response Team (CMRT) to provide essential healthcare services to the displaced population. This report highlights the CMRT’s activities, outcomes, and recommendations.
The CMRT’s primary objectives were to provide comprehensive healthcare services, including medical consultations, laboratory tests, and medication distribution, conduct health education sessions to promote preventive health measures, and assess the overall health needs of the displaced population. To achieve these objectives, the CMRT conducted several medical outreach programs at major displacement camps, offering integrated medical clinics, modern medical laboratories, free distribution of essential and chronic medications for a full month, and health education sessions to raise awareness of preventive measures.
The CMRT successfully reached a large number of displaced individuals, delivering critical healthcare services. Key milestones include the outreach conducted at the Egyptian School on November 7th, which lasted two days and benefited 230 patients, with 113 individuals utilizing laboratory services. Similarly, on November 23rd at the Youth Center, the team served 147 clinic beneficiaries and 73 laboratory beneficiaries. On November 24th, at Sarras School, 151 clinic beneficiaries and 78 laboratory beneficiaries received care.
Despite these achievements, several challenges persist. The CMRT faced medication shortages, limiting their ability to meet the population’s needs, and the high caseload strained existing resources. To address these issues and sustain progress, the report recommends strengthening partnerships with local and international organizations to enhance resource availability, expanding services to reach more underserved populations, and conducting continuous evaluations to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
In conclusion, the CMRT has played a vital role in mitigating the health crisis faced by the displaced population in New Halfa. By providing timely and accessible healthcare services, the team has significantly improved the lives of many individuals. However, to sustain these efforts and build on their success, continued support from partners and donors is essential.
