From November 29 to 30, 2024, the Sustainable Development Response Organization (SuDRO) conducted a significant convoy mission in Northern State, Sudan, with the objective of addressing the healthcare needs of displaced populations in Al-Afadh Camp and Al-Dabbah Locality. This mission aimed to deliver critical medical services while evaluating malnutrition levels and assessing living conditions in targeted communities currently facing substantial challenges. During the mission, healthcare teams treated a total of 434 patients and identified concerning rates of malnutrition and respiratory illnesses. Among 205 children assessed, there were 14 cases of Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) and 11 cases of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).
Al-Afadh Camp is struggling with severe infrastructural challenges, including a lack of electricity, clean water, and adequate sanitation, which pose serious health risks to its residents. Additionally, the increased volume of patients has resulted in treatment delays, particularly in pediatric care, emphasizing the need for enhanced healthcare resources. To address these pressing issues, it is crucial to implement immediate improvements in infrastructure, expand healthcare personnel, and establish targeted programs for managing malnutrition and chronic diseases. Furthermore, strengthening safety measures against environmental hazards is essential to ensure the well-being of residents.
In conclusion, the situation in Al-Afadh Camp necessitates urgent humanitarian assistance and coordinated efforts to enhance health outcomes and living conditions for its displaced population. It is imperative that we pursue a collaborative and strategic approach to foster meaningful and sustainable change in these vulnerable communities.
